The Other Side of the River
19-year-old Hala escapes her ISIS-occupied Syrian hometown to Kurdish-occupied areas, where she enters a military academy and seeks female independance.
Hala, a 19-year-old Arab woman, runs away from her family and her ISIS-occupied city to the Kurdish- occupied areas on the other side of the Euphrates. Here she enters a military academy for women and learns how to fight and gets inspired by the promise of freeing women. After the Kurdish military took over her hometown from ISIS, Hala returns there as a police officer authorized to protect other vulnerable women. But can she fulfill her greatest dream: to free her younger sisters from her father's hand? A film about feminist dreams and disappointments in times of revolution and war.
